Abstract

1. α,α-Difluorotrimethylamine is a source of unhydrated fluoride ion in reactions with strong electrophiles. 2. α,α-Difluoromethylamine readily reacts with bis(trifluoromethyl) ketene, trifluoromethylisocyanate, hexafluoroacetone, and perfluoroisobutene forming hexafluoroisobutenyldi-methylamine, N-trifluoromethyl-N′,N′-dimethylformamidine, 4-dimethylamino-4-fluoro-2,2,5,5-tetrakis(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dioxolane, 1-dimethylamino-3-trifluoromethylperfluorobut-2-ene, and (1-fluoro-1-perfluoro-tert-butyl)trimethylamine, respectively. 3. The reactions of α,α-difluorotrimethylamine with hexafluoroacetone and perfluoroisobutene are brought about by a carbene mechanism.
