Abstract

Forty new bent-core compounds, unsymmetrically substituted about a central phenyl ring, were investigated for their mesomorphic properties. The effect of fluorine substituents in different positions of the phenyl rings of one of the arms of the bent-core compounds on the mesophases were examined in detail. Most of the compounds exhibit the lamellar antiferroelectric B2 mesophase. The mesophases were investigated by textural observation by polarizing microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction and electro-optical studies.
