Abstract

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) gained much attention as promising candidates for next generation energy storage devices because of their high-energy-density. Nevertheless, lithium dendrite growth during lithium plating/stripping hinders the practical uses of LMBs. Safety concerns such as flammability and unstable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) on lithium metal are also major problems to be solved. In this presentation, we report LMBs based fluorine doped LiAlCl4-xFx-3SO2 nonflammable inorganic liquid electrolyte. We will show how fluorine doping impact the electrochemical performance of LMBs with SO2 based inorganic liquid electrolyte. Detailed reaction mechanism of our battery system with F doped LiAlCl4-xFx-3SO2 nonflammable inorganic liquid electrolyte will be discussed in the presentation.
