Abstract

Abstract Fluorinated graphene (FG) cannot be applied under aqueous environments due to its high hydrophobicity related to fluorine on FG nanosheet, so how to achieve the hydrophilic FG is a challenge. The novel water lubricant that manifests outstanding tribological properties were obtained using fluorinated graphene oxide (FGO) as additive which was dispersed in green friendly water environments. The FGO was successfully fabricated by simple hydrothermal reaction with the coexistence of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid which induces that the FGO contains numerous oxygen-containing functional groups. The resultant FGO water lubricant additives owned the excellent dispersibility in water and exhibited the tremendous abrasion resistance, illustrating their potentiality in wear-resistant materials, specifically in water-based lubricant materials.
