Abstract

The reduction of chromate ion in the presence of perfluoropinacol (PFP) leads to the formation of stable, chelated, alkoxides containing chromium(V) in the ion [GrO(PFP)2]–, the cations being K+, Cs+ or Et4N+; the isoelectronic vanadium(IV) complex, [VO(PFP)2]22–, may be prepared by reaction of PFP with a vanadyl salt.
