Abstract

Abstract The consumption of fluoride tablets for the partial prevention of dental caries is widely advocated. This implies the possible risk of acute or chronic poisoning. In this note, the number of sodium fluoride tablets (2·2 mg. NaF) required for morbidity and mortality at different ages is estimated. The treatment of acute fluoride toxicity is described and the degree of risk of sodium fluoride tablets as a household hazard is discussed.
