Abstract

Precise measurements of the stability constants of the monofluoride complexes of Li/sup +/, Ag/sup +/, Na/sup +/, and Pb/sup 2 +/ have been made in aqueous nitrate and perchlorate media. These results show that the expected advantage of replacing NaF by the less associated KF as the source of fluoride ion in the study of metal ion-fluoride equilibria is largely nullified by having to substitute KNO/sub 3/ for NaClO/sub 4/ as the ionic medium. Literature data indicate that apparent fluoride stability constants measured in nitrate media are often lower than those in perchlorate media as a result of metal ion-nitrate complexing.
