Abstract

The Schiff base ligand L, which was derived from 2-hydroxy naphthaldehyde and benzidine characterized by various spectral techniques like FT-IR, 1H NMR and Mass. The ligand (L) which was soluble in the various solvents like acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide, dichloromethane, dimethylformamide, ethanol, methanol, propanol, THF and toluene. The UV-visible absorption and emission spectral behaviour has been studied. The binding nature of L with various anions was carried out by the addition of L with tert-butyl ammonium salts of F−, Cl−, Br−, I−, NO3–, SCN− and ClO4− ion in THF medium and among all of anions L has more binding behaviour with F− ion. The binding nature of L with anions was monitored by UV-visible absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy.
