Abstract

Fluorescence spectra and lifetimes of thioflavin T (ThT) in aqueous solutions of γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) were studied. Enhancements of the probe fluorescence intensity and lifetime were shown to result from the formation of two types (1:1 and 1:2) of ThT–γ-CD inclusion complexes. The formation constants of these complexes were determined based on spectral-kinetic measurements. Proof was provided that the probe did not form dimers at low concentrations (10−6–10−5 M).
