Abstract

Numerous powdered vegetable drugs and some powdered animal drugs were examined under ultraviolet radiation after treatment with several reagents. The reagents were 1 N sodium hydroxide in methanol, 1 N sodium hydroxide in water, 1 N hydrochloric acid, nitric acid diluted with an equal volume of water, and sulfuric acid diluted with an equal volume of water. The characteristic fluorescence of each drug was observed and data pertaining to color and intensity were recorded.
