Abstract

INVESTIGATION of the photo-degradation of aqueous tyrosine solutions by means of emission spectroscopy has revealed in the photo-degraded solutions a new emission (wavelength of maximum fluorescence intensity, λmax = 410 mµ) in addition to the main tyrosine emission (λmax = 303 mµ). This new emission may be useful in the quantitative investigation of the photochemistry of tyrosine. The identification of this new emission with a photo-degradation product seems to explain the difference in the spectra obtained by Longin1 and Teale and Weber2 for aqueous tyrosine solutions.
