Fluorescence lifetimes of 3,3′-diethyloxadicarbocyanine iodide excited by single and multiple picosecond pulses

Abstract

We have measured, by fluorescence, the relaxation times of the excited states of the two DODCI isomers in solution in ethanol. Excitation with a single pulse gives only the excited state of the normal form with τ f = (1.2 ± 0.3)ns. Excitation with a train of pulses leads to build-up of the photoisomer and the relaxation time of its excited state is τ f = (420 ± 60)ps.
