Abstract

N-methylformamide (NMF), the major metabolite of the N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) in human body, is regarded as biomarker of DMF intoxication and represents the internal dose of DMF exposure in human body. Now we developed a novel and feasible method for NMF detection with luminescent Eu3+ functionalized metal organic frameworks (Eu(III)@MOF-1). The luminescence of Eu(III)@MOF-1 can be realized significant increase only by NMF even though in the presence of other chemical components of urine. This method is the first case to determine urinary NMF using the luminescent metal organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs). The optical sensor presents highlighted advantages for NMF detection, such as remarkable sensitivity, fast response, high selectivity, good reusability. Moreover, a portable test card is also made for immediate detection. Therefore, the discussed NMF sensing method can act as a promising application potential to monitor the intoxication of DMF contact.
