Abstract

Fluorescein angiography of albino rabbit iris was performed with a modified slit-lamp camera which permitted a strobe recycling time of 0.5 seconds. The arterial supply of the iris consisted of two large temporal and two large nasal trunks which distributed a large number of straight, radial, arterial vessels running to within about 1 mm of the pupillary border, where an especially dense capillary network is present. The intervening area between the major arterial circle and pupillary border was supplied by dense, anastomotic vessels showing no discernible orientation or structural arrangement. From the pupillary margin, capillaries drain into radial venous channels which pass back to the limbus in a straight course. Iris vessels were found comparable to retinal vessels in not leaking fluorescein. Vessels of the ciliary processes leaked fluorescein comparable to choroidal vessels.
