Abstract

After heating in acid, the fluorescamine derivatives of histidine, histamine, and histidyl peptides are intensely fluorescent, while the fluorescence of other fluorescamine-labeled compounds disappears. As little as 0.1 nmol of reative imidazole can be determined in the presence of other amines. The usefulness of this unique reaction is demonstrated by the assay of histidine in deproteinized (ethanol) urine.
