Abstract

Cornstarch particles are difficult to fluidize owing to their small size and strong cohesive forces that can lead among other things to undesired agglomeration. To improve the fluidization quality the particles were coated with SiO2 particles (2.5 μm) in an axial magnetic fluidized bed. This surface modification results in a larger bed expansion and the coated particles have a longer minimum collapse time than the ones without a coating.
