Abstract

Fluid–solid reactions often occur under the mixed rate control of chemical and mass transfer processes. The results of this work demonstrate that Sohn’s Law of additive reaction times can be used in combination with the non-basic shape-factor method to obtain closed-form conversion–time relationships for initially porous or non-porous solids of any shape under the mixed control of reaction steps. The conversion–time relationships obtained by this method yield close approximations of the exact numerical solutions of the governing equations for all the cases examined.
