Abstract
Liquid embolization materials have been playing a major role in the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular pathologies. There are now two different liquid embolics being used for his purpose.Cyanoacrilic glue is the one which has been used extensively in the last two decades especially in the endovascular treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVM) Until 1999, it had been the the only embolizing agent for this treatment offering the limited advantage of penetrating the nidus of the malformations. After implication of new liquid embolic Onyx (Onyx low density), we have been developing a revolutionary intranidal Onyx injection technique. It allows us to penetrate the AVM nidus much better with prolonged intranidal injections. It is possible to obtain either a cure in much higher rate or create significant reduction in the size of the AVM with a single microcatheter injection in a single embolization session. The other form of Onyx that is called Onyx high density also opened a fairly different avenue in endovascular cerebral aneurysm management. The technique applied by this material let us achieve very satisfactory results in the treatment of large and giant aneurysms. The technique started to be used in the treatment of aneurysms which otherwise have no effective treatment alternatives.
