Abstract

We obtain the equations for the quantum fluctuations of gauge and Higgs fields in the background of a 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole. The integration of these equations at frequency zero provides a check for the stability of the classical solution according to the Jacobi criterion. The numerical analysis shows that the monopole is indeed stable against spherical and non-spherical fluctuations.
