Abstract

We consider the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in a relativistic pion gas. At high collision energy, in the samples of events with a fixed number of all pions, N, the pion system may approach the conditions of the BEC. An anomalous increase of the scaled variances of neutral and charged pion number fluctuations then appears. The size of this increase is restricted by the finite size of the pion system which should increase with the collision energy.
