Abstract

Summary form only given, as follows. A new instrument for measuring turbulent density and temperature fluctuations has been developed for the TEXTOR tokamak. This is a,combined Microwave Imaging Reflectometer (MIR) and Electron Cyclotron Emission Imaging (ECEI) system, and is expected to extend the range and detail of turbulence measurement capability in fusion plasmas. Both the MIR and ECEI techniques take advantage of large aperture optics to form an image of the reflecting/emitting layer onto an array of detector located at the image plane, enabling localized sampling of small plasma areas. The instrument design evolved from a prototype apparatus previously implemented on TEXTOR, and has been fully characterized in the laboratory using a series of corrugated reflecting, targets.
