Abstract

The well-known QCD effect of color transparency or opacity induces fluctuations in the hadronic cross sections. We have investigated the effect of cross-section fluctuations in the transverse energy production in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions in the geometric model. The fluctuating cross sections are characterized by a normal distribution. The variance of the distribution is obtained by explicitly fitting the transverse energy cross-sectional data. Fluctuations, order of magnitude less than found in NN collisions, are obtained.
