Abstract

In the previous reports, the characteristics of the time-mean and fluctuating forces acting on two rectangular prisms in tandem, and side by side arrangements placed vertically in a turbulent boundary layer were clarified. In the present report, the characteristics of fluid forces acting on the downstream prism, and the flow pattern around it are discribed in the case of staggered arrangements. Results are presented in equi-line diagrams of time-mean drag and lift, fluctuating drag and lift and the Strouhal number of the downstream prism for various relative locations. From the unique variations of the fluid forces and the Strouhal number of the downstream prism, it is found that the distributions of the fluid forces can be classified into three regions, and the Strouhal number can be classified into four regins.
