Abstract
FLOWPACK II is a flowsheeting (or process simulation) system. It was developed initially by the Corporate Laboratory of ICI and then jointly by ICI and by LINDE. It will provide the basis of the flowsheeting capability within our two companies for the next decade. FLOWPACK II may truly be described as a ‘third generation’ flowsheeting system [1] in that it provides many new facilities: for ‘controlled’ simulation to achieve design specifications, for simulating processes involving solids, for handling arbitrary information streams and for generating very complicated but computationally efficient process models. FLOWPACK II is an indutrial package. It has therefore been designed to be readily used by engineers who may have no computing experience. The most recent version of FLOWPACK II is available for both batch and interactive use. This paper describes the design criteria for FLOWPACK II and give some examples of the ways in which they have been satisfied.
