Abstract

Quarry waste fine aggregate has been utilized to produce flowing concretes. In total, eight flowing concrete mixtures were prepared. Except for two control concretes, quarry waste fine aggregate was used in all concretes as a partial replacement of natural pit sand. The effect of quarry waste fine aggregate was investigated with respect to flow properties (slump, slump flow, and V-funnel flow), air content, and compressive strength of concrete. It was found that quarry waste fine aggregate marginally increased the slump, slump flow, and V-funnel flow of concrete. The air content of concrete was not affected by quarry waste fine aggregate. However, the presence of quarry waste fine aggregate reduced the compressive strength of concrete by 7.2 to 9.6% at 28 and 56 days. The overall test results indicate that quarry waste fine aggregate can be utilized in flowing concretes as a substitute of natural sand.
