Abstract

We propose a new combined compact difference(CCD) scheme with high resolution for fluid flow simulations. The first order derivative in the new CCD scheme has eighth-(in periodic boundaries) or sixth-(in non-periodic boundaries) order accuracy and spectral-like resolution. In addition, the accuracy of the Poisson equation solver for the pressure evaluation is also improved. We apply the new scheme to the simulation of vortical flow fields in three-dimensional lid-driven cavities and evaluate its effectiveness.
