Abstract

The reduction from source is the most effective method to reduce the flow ripple or pressure pulsation. In this paper, an even-piston pump is chosen as a reference pump. Based on this pump, a modified port plate with valve-controlled communicating passage (VCCP) is adopted to reduce flow ripple. The analytical model of this reference pump is initially established to express the basic principles of flow ripple. And VCCP is introduced to illustrate the working principles. In the analytical results, the pump with VCCP performs good reduction compared to the reference pump. Considering some influencing factors such as cavitation and turbulence of flow characteristics, a CFD model is established to describe its actual delivery flow ripple. To describe the performance quantitively, the reduction rate is adopted to evaluate the results of delivery flow ripple under different operating conditions.
