Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of sprayer output, tank fill level, and the presence of asurfactant on the flow rates of top, middle, and bottom groups of nozzles/atomizers used on tower sprayers. Air-blast andair-curtain sprayers were operated at low, medium, and high outputs. While all atomizers were running simultaneously, theflow rates of nozzle/atomizer groups were measured at different tank fill levels.

In general, the top nozzle/atomizer group had a lower flow rate than the mean while the bottom group had a higher flowrate. Nozzle flow rate slightly decreased with reduction of liquid volume in the tank. The rate of decrease was higher for lowersprayer outputs and bottom nozzle/atomizer groups. The presence of a surfactant did not have an effect on flow rate of theatomizers.
