Abstract

1. 1. The sodium and potassium concentrations of 118 NaCl-induced salt gland secretion samples of the gull, Larus glaucescens, were analyzed as functions of secretory flow rate. 2. 2. Sodium concentration was positively correlated with flow rate; potassium concentration was negatively correlated. These relationships were not noted in birds drinking fresh water. 3. 3. The slope of the sodium regression line was little affected by drinking-water salinity, while that of potassium was greatly steepened.
