Abstract

Two-dimensional free surfaces produced by a submerged source from a region containing three homogeneuos layers of fluid at different densities are considered. Based on the assumptions of steady, ideal, irrotational flow the problem is formulated as a system of non-linear integral equations. For Fr > 1, a numerical method is developed in order to obtain the profiles of the free surfaces and the position of the sink or source. It is found that there exist solutions for all values of Fr > 1, but the positions of the sink or source and the cusp attachment points are limited to a small region in space.
