Abstract

The rate-based flow control is one of the important means that avoid congestion and guarantee high throughput for available bit rate communication in ATM networks. However, the propagation delay in networks has a great adverse effect on it. This paper applies Dahlin control algorithm for the design of flow controller, which can overcome the adverse effect caused by propagation delay better and has a good robust performance. Theoretical analysis shows that the scheme guarantees no buffer overflow and utilizes the bandwidth fairly and sufficiently, and the dynamical quality is better than PID controller, which are verified by simulation.
