Abstract

Non-exponential flourescence decays from the trivalent terbium 5D 4 state of Tb x Y 1− x PO 4 were observed under the H 2-VUV laser (7.75 eV) excitation. The non-exponential character was ascribed to exciton-exciton annihilation resulting from high excitation density at the surface of the phosphors. Dependence of the annihilation coefficients upon x was explained by a random walk diffusion model.
