Abstract

Squares are of great importance for the sociability of a population and the configuration of a city. This research aimed to carry out a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the tree and shrub components of Clementino Procópio square in the city of Campina Grande (PB). Specimen data collection was carried out through a census and analysis was carried out using phytosociological parameters and multivariate analysis. It was found that exotic species are more predominant. Fabaceae, Arecaceae and Bignoniaceae were the families with the highest number of species. The species F. retusa and H. heptaphyllus had more number of specimens, more density and dominance, more importance and coverage. The tree density indices, Shannon-Winer and Pielou, showed that the square has enough number of trees, high species diversity and high equitability.
