Abstract

Past and present floodplain management policies in Ontario are discussed. The initiatives of various agencies undertaken in the wake both of the Hurricane Hazel flood of 1954 and the high levels of the Great Lakes recorded in 1954 and in 1973–74 are reviewed. Cost sharing programmes are considered and several questions of current concern are examined.
