Abstract

The flooding phenomenon in aerated turbine-agitated vessels was studied. A method for determining the onset of flooding from turbulence measurements with a hot-film anemometer was developed and proved applicable to air-water systems. The following correlation between the critical impeller speed N F , impeller diameter D and gas flow rate Q according to the definition of flooding by Rushton et al. was obtained: N F D 1.8/Q 0.3 = 0.54. This correlation can be used to determine the lower limit of operation when designing or scaling-up an aerated agitated vessel
