Abstract

In recent years, typhoon have caused extensive financial loss, damage to lives and property. Typhoon Nargis landed in Myanmar in 2008, typhoon Haiyan in 2013 ravaged the Philippines and caused a surge as high as 7m, more than 6,000 people died. According to the report of UNDP (2008) which predicts that Viet Nam to be one of the most disaster-prone country special in the climate change today. Therefore, the risk of strong typhoons entering the East Sea and affecting our country is very large. Defining storm surge level and intensity of flooding due to sea level rise in a strong typhoon situation has been made as the basis for the development of response plans, particularly the relocation and evacuation plans. Ky Anh district has a coastline of about 63 km in Ha Tinh province which has many estuary estuaries such as Cua Son, Cua Nhuong, Cua Khau and the southern coastal area of the province are low-lying areas, which are prone to flooding in case of strong typhoons. The research built flood maps due to strong typhoons for the coastal areas of Ky Anh district with 3 different scenarios by using MIKE and ArcGis.
