Abstract

Several floods have occurred in Poland over the years, mainly along the Odra and Vistula rivers. The devastating flood that hit Poland in July 1997 was particularly severe along the Odra river. More than 140,000 people were evacuated as 86 cities and 845 villages were inundated. It is estimated that the damages caused amounted to about 3 billion US$.
