Abstract

Four prognostic studies (CoE III) that examined factors for unsatisfactory functional outcomes measured by Karlström/Olerud score following floating knee injury form the basis of this report. The overall mean risk of unsatisfactory outcomes in patients with primarily Müller AO type I fracture was 41 % in one study and 17 % in another. The mean risk of an unsatisfactory score in another study among patients with only type II fractures was 58 %. Statistically significant association with unsatisfactory scores included type II fractures (joint involvement) and delay in fracture fixation of greater than 1 week, and increased severity of tibial soft-tissue injury.
