Abstract

The article discusses technological advancements in robotics as of March 2013, with a focus on miniature, autonomous, flying robots called RoboBees and the engineering difficulties presented by their small size. Topics include the design of artificial muscles for controlling powered flight, tiny sensors involved in processing environmental cues, and employing swarms of RoboBees in coordinated efforts. Additional information is presented on colony collapse disorder (CCD), decision making in bee hives, and potential agricultural applications for robotic bee hives.
