Abstract

In this paper flexure of rectangular composite plates, simply supported on two opposite sides and with various edge conditions on the other two sides, is considered. The composite plate is treated as a homogeneous orthotropic plate and transverse shear effects are included. Numerical results are presented for boron/epoxy and glass/epoxy composites for various thickness and aspect ratios, and fibre orientation. The effect of fibre orientation on deflections and moments is studied. Results using thin plate theory are also presented and compared with the more accurate results.
