Abstract

In a research programme at TU Wien, the combination of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) reinforced with carbon fibre-reinforced polymers (CFRP) has been investigated. Experimental investigations of a filigree slab element made of these high-performance materials are presented in this paper. The focus here is on the flexural behaviour of this innovative structural elements. The performance of this material combination in the serviceability limit state was very good. However, the analytical moment capacity of the slab elements was not reached in the tests due to a bond failure between the textile reinforcement and the surrounding concrete, which led to premature failure of the specimens. Nevertheless this does not indicate a bad suitability for this type of structural element in practice, but rather shows that the bond behaviour of textile reinforced concrete is not fully understood yet.
