Abstract

This paper investigates the flexural behavior of high-strength rectangular concrete-filled steel tubular (RCFST) column-to-column connections with different configurations. Based on the tests, 35 additional finite element analysis (FEA) models were developed to perform the parametric analysis varying with the cross-sectional size effect of (D), the width-to-thickness ratio of steel tube (D/t), steel tube strength (fs,y), steel bars strength (fr,y), concrete strength (fc,r), length of steel bars (L), arrangement and quantity of steel bars, respectively. The current code underestimated the yield and plastic bending moment compared with the calculated results from GB 50010–2010, ACI 318–19, EN 1992–1-1:2004, and JSCE-SSCS-2007. Finally, the strain coordination method and the full plastic section method were proposed to calculate the yield and plastic bending moment of the connection.
