Abstract

An automobile passenger suffered a horizontal splitting fracture of both iliac wings in an auto accident. At the time of collision he was held firmly in place by a lap-type seat belt and his upper torso was flexed forward. The acute forward flexion was accentuated by the catapulting of a 300-lb. passenger from the rear into the front compartment.
