Abstract

The World Wide Web (WWW) can be used as a platform to build Decision Support Systems (DSS) to solve problems for a wide range of users. Web-based DSS (WDSS) are interactive computerised system, which utilise Web browsers to interact with users and Web servers to access and integrate components such as data, models, solvers, visualisations, and scenario across the Web to solve mainly semi-structured and un-structured problems. On a network system, the design of a Web-based DSS imposes greater demands than the design of a traditional DSS. The design and implementation of a WDSS Generator (WDSSG) raises many issues and problems. This paper proposes a framework for the architecture of a WDSSG utilising different software agents to enhance the functionalities of existing DSS. Scenarios and Visualisation are incorporated into the DSS for additional functionalities.
