Abstract

The growing success of printed, flexible, wearable electronics (with an expected market over $40 billion in 2020) has opened the way to the development of flexible and stretchable photonics. An overview of the very recent advances in the design and realization of flexible photonic circuits and devices based on optical fibers and planar guided-wave structures is presented. Preliminary results obtained by our groups on the fabrication of optical waveguides onto flexible substrates are also shown.
