Abstract

This paper aims at the design, control and implementation of multifunctional solar PV integrated battery energy storage (BES) system. This system comprises of BES unit integrated to the DC link capacitor through DC–DC bidirectional converter. The boost converter provides the MPP (Maximum Power Point) of the solar PV (Photovoltaic) array and a grid integrated VSC (Voltage Source Converter) is used for DC-AC conversion. The proposed flexible control provides the active power filtering in grid connected mode (GCM) and uninterrupted power to residential loads connected at the PCC (Point of Common Coupling) during off grid condition. It is utilized for VSC operation in GCM and islanding mode (IM) using finite state decision (FSD) logic for transition between these modes. This contains a cross feedback network (CFN) based D-Q control for grid-connected mode and standalone voltage control for off grid mode. Besides these operating modes, BES unit works as an offline uninterruptable power supply (UPS) in the case of power outage in the main grid and absence of solar PV power. The performance of proposed control is tested using real time processer (dSPACE-1202) and validated through test results for grid synchronization, and resynchronization and islanding condition.
