Abstract

The Undersea Warfare Decision Support System (USW-DSS) will enhance Naval Fleet capabilities by providing a “Common Tactical Picture” between platforms. However, USW-DSS encapsulates a number of mission-critical tasks across many contexts, necessitating solutions to improve multi-tasking and context switching. As part of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project, we have formulated an approach to fill this gap by developing Flexible Autonomous Support To Aid Context and Task Switching (FAST-ACTS). FAST-ACTS will be a task and context management tool enabling operators to become more proficient with the multi-tasking and context switching elements of USW-DSS. Our multi-disciplinary approach integrates activity recognition models with visualizations of multiple tasks and contexts to ultimately reduce the time and workload costs often associated with multi-tasking.
