Abstract

The numerical accuracy of the recently developed flexible local approximation method (FLAME)-a generalized finite-difference technique-is improved by adaptive grid refinement. A natural error indicator in FLAME is the discrepancy between the numerical solution over two overlapping ldquopatchesrdquo (subdomains carrying local analytical approximations of the solution). Electrostatic problems and wave scattering by dielectric particles are used as examples of the substantial accuracy improvement.
