Abstract

Flash photolysis of cattle rhodopsin in solution has been analysed theoretically and the results are found to be in good agreement with the experimental results of Williams (1970). The values of various kinetic activation parameters ( i.e. activation energy, free energy of activation, enthalpy of activation, entropy of activation and the pre-exponential factor of Arrhenius equation) for the reactions metarhodopsin I → metarhodopsin I′, metarhodopsin I′ → metarhodopsin I, metarhodopsin I′ → metarhodopsin II and metarhodopsin II → metarhodopsin I′ have been determined. Also the quantum efficiency of the conversion of metarhodopsin I into rhodopsin has been determined.
