Abstract

Herein, we present a flash nanoprecipitation process for one-step formation of soft colloidal particles, in which platinum (II) acetylacetonate is entrapped within poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) nanospheres. The protection of the polymer matrix in the flash nanoprecipitated composites would ensure that the monodisperse platinum nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed in the carbon matrix after carbonization. Electrochemical characterization shows that the obtained Pt-carbon nanocomposites (denoted as Pt@NC) exhibit a high catalytic performance and low polarization loss toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in an alkaline electrolyte via a favorable four-electron pathway.
